Aorus AD27QD 27″ 1440P Gaming Monitor Review

Aorus AD27QD 27″ 1440P Gaming Monitor Review

A Great Balance of Power and Performance

The Aorus 27″ gaming monitor has been dubbed the world’s first tactical monitor, and that’s because of the customization options and sleek appearance that it has. It goes far beyond being just a screen to play on. It allows you to customize your gaming experience to your liking, and it’ll look great on top of any gaming desk

RGB Lighting

Unlike most gaming monitors, this Aorus model features RGB lighting on the back panel, and there are RGB highlights along the sides of the monitor. The lighting effects are a step above what’s found in other RGB-compatible devices. You can change the colors and pulsing effects for individual lighting zones. That allows you to get creative with the appearance of the monitor.

1440p Resolution

1440p monitors don’t produce as sharp of an image as 4K monitors, but they’re also less demanding on your GPU, and they can boast much higher refresh rates than 4K monitors can.

The Aorus 27″ is a prime example of this. It can produce crisp imagery with a refresh rate of 144Hz. In comparison, a 4K monitor can typically only handle a refresh rate of 60Hz before it starts to overheat the most powerful GPUs. That fast refresh rate makes it a lot more comfortable to stare at the Aorus for long periods of time, and it prevents eye strain that can lead to more serious injuries.

Adjustable Color Range

With most computer monitors, the color range is set before you ever pick them up at the store. If the image is washed out or too vibrant, you can’t do anything about it. The Aorus isn’t like that.

It allows you to adjust color settings of the display with a remarkable amount of precision, and that allows you to see the exact type of image that you want. If you’re playing a dreary horror title, you can create a more washed out look to immerse you in the game more. If you want really vibrant images, you can do that, too. You’re not limited by factory settings. The Aorus is whatever you want it to be.

OSD Sidekick

The OSD Sidekick software used in the Aorus is a gamer’s best friend. Primarily, it allows you to adjust your field of view and contrast levels without using any in-game mechanics. This is great for really dark multi-player games because developers often prevent you from increasing your gamma or contrast. That increases the fairness of multi-player games, but it can make it unnecessarily difficult for people with poor eyesight.

It also allows you to change small details like your crosshairs in FPS titles. In the past, that was something that required mods to do, and mods are often blocked from being used in official multi-player sessions. With the Aorus, you never have to download a mod just to turn your crosshairs green, or adjust the opacity of your health bars.

Perfect Viewing Angles

Everyone’s eyes are different, and it’s important to be able to comfortably find the viewing angle that allows you to see best. The Aorus is completely adjustable to allow you to do just that. It can be raised, tilted, swiveled, leaned, and rotated without having to be adjust any screws or tabs.

The adjustment features allow the Aorus to be angled anyway that you want, and that makes it easy to find the perfect viewing angle for you. Once you find the right angle, you won’t notice any darkening on certain parts of the screen, and you won’t see any distorted images. You can simply enjoy a perfectly crisp image at all times.

Attractive Design

The panels of the Aorus are mostly just cosmetic, but that doesn’t stop them from being a major selling point. Aorus took inspiration from falcons to design this 27″ model. It has layers of high-end polymer that form a distinct wing shape, and the lighting effects work to enhance that design.

We know that the shape of the panels isn’t very important from a technical standpoint, but the amount of detail that Aorus put into it really makes this model stand out from other gaming monitors

Conclusion

The Aorus doesn’t produce the most vivid imagery possible, but it does get pretty close, and it doesn’t sacrifice its performance to do so. It’s easy on GPUs, adjustable in every regard, and it’s built to last. It has enough ports to give you plenty of options, and it can be moved around with ease to find the perfect viewing angle for you. Overall, it’s a gaming monitor that balances performance with graphical power very well.

It’s a somewhat pricey gaming monitor, but it’s not so expensive that the average gamer can’t realistically save up for it, and it out performs every gaming monitor that’s within its price range.
