How to check ram type in windows 7?

“How to check RAM type in windows 7? Ways to check how many GB of RAM I have? How do I know the speed or RAM memory of my laptop? Is there some easy way of finding RAM specs?” If you’re struggling with these questions, then this article is for you!

This post will show you how to easily check all RAM specs like type, size, and speed in Windows 7, 8, 10.

We are glad to tell you that most versions of Windows (Windows 7, 8, 10) have many built-in tools for testing RAM specs. Not only is the use of CMD (Command Prompt) much more convenient and simpler among these tools, but you can also check more specs like CMD’s manufacturer and serial number of RAMs. The full tutorial, available for Windows 7, 8, 10, is here.

What is RAM?

First of all, I want to tell you about the RAM system. RAM stands for Random Access Memory, in terms of computer technology. There’s a specific slot for the memory stick (RAM) where it’s inserted on your motherboard.

RAM is also called DIMM ( Dual Inline Memory Module). It stores data in your system memory (RAM) before it is loaded into the system, while you do some work on your computer.

RAM is comprised of memory chips that can be written or re-written by a hardware device.

How to Check RAM Type by Speed Rating?

This approach is used to examine your device’s RAM type by the mark on the RAM itself. You have to be a bit of a technical person for this task since the work is very delicate.

For this purpose, you need to open your desktop tower or laptop cover and safely remove the RAM from the motherboard slot (ensure that your device is switched off and unplugged from power).

See now on RAM; there’s a printed mark on RAM, which will tell you the type of RAM. If you don’t see the RAM type written on it, check the device type RAM by speed rating defined on the RAM itself.

  • PC2-3200 to PC2-8500 – DDR2

Checking RAM Type by Software Utility

It’s a very simple and easy process. You don’t even have to open the system covering or be a technical individual.
