The Latest News on the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080
Think the unveiling of the PS5 is the best tech event you’ve seen this year? Think again as Nvidia may be unveiling its RTX 3000 series graphics card in September. Rumors have it that the GeForce GTX 3080 is bound to go on sale this September, and Nvidia may be surprising everyone by launching the RTX GeForce 3090 as well.
According to Wccftech and Igor’s Lab, Nvidia should start the mass production of these GPUs in August and also organize a reveal and media event in September. The reveal and media event may also include the first official benchmarks of these GPUs. Also, according to the timetable on Wccftech on which these rumors are based, Nvidia could reveal the 3080 and 3090 GPUs at a public event that will be held before the media event.

A YouTube video by Coreteks explains the design these cards are likely to feature. The video suggests that the graphic cards are going to be built on Nvidia’s Ampere Architecture. This means that the GPUs will have a co-processor on one side of their PCB (printed circuit board), and the main GPU will sit on the other side. The co-processor will be mainly responsible for providing dedicated ray-tracing rendering, which will be built upon the specialized ray-tracing cores already featured on the GeForce RTX-20 series.

However, even though Coreteks has proven to be a good source for tips and rumors, we’d like you to take this information with a pinch of salt as there’s very little to back it up. Additionally, since most of the leaked images of the RTX 3080 doesn’t show a dual-sided PCB graphics card, we’ll have to wait for the official photos to be sure.
The Surprising RTX 3090
Rumors concerning the RTX 3090 were assumed to be false or not substantial. They were consistently dismissed as the 3080Ti instead. However, the persistence of these rumors is making us have second thoughts.
It’s been a while since Nvidia released a graphics card with the x90 tag. In fact, the last time Nvidia released a card with the x90 label was in 2012 when the GTX 690 was made. Instead of continuing products with the x90 tag, the brand has focused more on releasing cards with the “Ti” tag, such as the GTX 1060Ti. Therefore, it’s going to be really surprising if the company comes out with a GPU under the x90 name.
There are many theories as to why Nvidia is going back to the x90 naming. One of the interesting ones is the one proposed by Wccftech. The brand may simply be joining Intel (Core i9) and AMD (Ryzen 9) in releasing products in the “9” series as many of the products currently associated with the number are known for high performance.
What we don’t know, however, is if the GeForce GTX 3090 will offer higher performance than the 3080Ti or if it will replace it totally. Either way, stay tuned for the latest news as and when we receive it.
